Overview:

Bacopa monnieri, also known as water hyssop, is a perennial herb heralded as a natural “brain tonic” in Ayurvedic medicine. The leaves of bacopa contain several unique classes of constituents, including bacosides, bacosterols, and bacosine, which are demonstrated to have anxiolytic, antidepressant, anti-inflammatory, and neuroprotective properties in humans.

In Ayurveda, bacopa is commonly paired with ashwagandha for bolstering the neuroactive benefits of both herbs.

Contemporary research demonstrates that supplementing with bacopa leaf extract can also enhance cognitive function and improve memory/learning by acting on both the serotonin and cholinergic systems, as well as promoting neuronal growth and integrity.
